    YPDs finished

It seems that the whole organisation has collapsed. There are no branches outside of Dublin. The only branches that remain are in two or three colleges in Dublin and are basically just a small gathering of friends, with no resources and interest to organise anything. Those at the top are only interested in compensated international trips to LYMEC and IFLRY for the benefit of their own selfish interests. The YPDs don’t seem to do any campaigns anymore and haven’t for a very long time. Their web-site seems to have been created by someone using the half assed book to building web-sites as their guide. Even still, the site hasn’t been updated in months and when it has been updated, it’s infrequent and underwhelming, mostly about the various people who’ve been selected to have various fancy titles, probably to impress the blind Europeans. Do any YPDs even care anymore? When will the two or three remaining branches shut down? And do the main party intend to shut down the shambles of a youth wing? They can hardly afford to resource it now anyway.

Assuming they get money from their colleges, the low membership rate could lead to some great piss-ups. :P

Yeah, thats always fun when you have a society with very few people involved. Presumably they have some experience in creative use of invoicing, i mean they were part of the PD's.

On another note, this is quite sad. I never agreed with the PD's on much, but political plurality is almost always a good thing.

Ah... "international junkets"? This all comes as a little bit of a suprise to me, seeing as I'm still in the YPDs but who am I to contradict an anonymous user with one post?

Much like the parent party, the YPDs are facing what could politely be called a little bit of a slump. Our numbers have dipped and we are small youth wing, but to say we are completely gone is a little incorrect.

Speaking as I can only for the DIT branch, we are planning a Europe Day campaign for the Lisbon Treaty and debate on the referendum in the coming weeks, and have just returned from a trip to London where we met members of the Young Lib Dems for what was a very interesting and instructive exchange. We were also fortunate to have in attendance at our National Conference members of the Alliance Party from the North, who visit was appreciated by those who got talking to them. And at Christmas just gone we had a session in the Westbury where our Party Chairman was plied with whiskeys and told us some fine tales Last year we had our customary trip to the Dail (bar), which was well attended and where we managed to detain Senator O'Malley for longer than I think she envisaged a supposedly moribund youth party being able to do.

I'm going out on a limb here, but I'm guessing this poster is a member of the YPDs. I'd invite them to make their points known within the organisation. We're not exactly formidable in size (I prefer the top deck of a bus to a phonebox) but there's definitely life and passion in the youth wing as I was reminded by a member who joined after the elections and was a little contemptuous of the disillusioned mood that was understandably present.
I'd ask jayjay if she could point to the campaigns being run at present by the other youth wings, just so we could have a sense of what it is that we're not doing.

How many members does one need to be recognised as an official society in DCU?

I thought the PDs were already in existance in DCU, were they not?
