    Third Level Fees

My friends daughter has just got a demand for registraion fees for the next year at University ( ucc)

It states to retain the invoice for TAX PURPOSES written is huge bold letters on it

On quering this with the Tax District Office they say that it is not allowable due to the fact that they are registration charges

would the accountact who worked at UCC and who stood for Cork South Central who is now a TD or his cohort jerryp explain

Registration fees that a normal student pays are not tax deductable but if you pay fees because you're repeating a year or doing a masters you can claim back 20% of the cost in tax relief

I can confirm absolutely that the reg fee cannot be used as a tax credit. If you are outside the free fees scheme then the charge is deductible at marginal rate

The person in the tax office should have told your friend all of this anyway.
