This is in place of decent political debate. I as a relativly young memeber of Fianna Fáil would like to try and change our party. I believe that the majority of people who get involved with Ógra only do so in college. The politcal life of those people is only equal in length to their college degrees. These are not the people we need in the party. I believe that we need people who want to change the communities and the society they live in through politics.
Instead our youth wing is dominated by college students who just take on the typical student role of opposing everything and filling silly positions such as Ard Comhairle etc. Many of the Ard Comhairle of our youth wing will never and have no interest in ever truly becoming interested in politics. I just want to ask if anyone else feels this frustration. I do not want to be involved in youth politics if it is centred on partying rather than constructive debate.

You are just another clown who has taken it into his/her head to set up a thread to feed the poor ABFF who are going through a transition period slowly realising they are in government now and responsible for the running of this country for a few years while FF get a rest. You may have come up the Liffey on a bubble but....................... have said enough !

Yes, I can understand your point exactly. I am still a member because I believe there is a chance to change this party. Although it is appearing a lot harder than I thought. Currently what I see in government is Ireland two other main parties. I see the empty promises and cronyism that they too are affected with. So I guess I am picking a party that has already hit rock bottom and must change in order to regain the trust of the Irish people. In four years or so I believe Fine Gael and Labour will be in the same position. Recently, I felt quite inspired by Patrick Nulty my local Labour TD when he voted against the budget cuts. I think it was a brave move and showed he is a man of principal. He attended my school and prior to the election allowed sixth year students to have an open debate with him. He gave his honest opinion on many topics and that was inspiring.

I assume you too are a Fianna Fáil member like myself. If you read my post I would like to think you would see the honesty within it. I am not anti- Fianna Fail if I am a member. If you attened the last NYC in Cork I believe you would have the same opinion as myself. It was a college party not a constructive debate.

Are you not a bit young for the mainstream? Would you not prefer to flirt with socialism first?

I don't understand why people sitting on the sidelines, cribbing and moaning about this and that, do not commit suicide.
