....their parents are FF, so were their grandparents, great-great-great grandparents etc

FF is embedded in their DNA.

If SG taught them anything it is all about the future. FF are not like the vast majority of political parties we've had in this country and their history is a huge part of the state. Any more than FG/Labour were suddenly going to fix the country FF was not about to suddenly vanish. While their next target is the locals in a few years time, Their real challenge is to find something to stand for and not the whatever you're having yourself attitude they've had for a very long time. If they don't then they will fade. Part of the potential attraction of FF is that they inhabit the same centre-right arena that most voters settle on. That said I can't seen them coming anywhere near power for at least another 10 years.

That's why I said 'should', because I know they're probably proud to see the fruit of their loins getting ready to ride the expenses gravy train a few years down the line.

I think it would help us to develop a healthier political system if young people could not become members of a political party until they reached a certain age.
Young people need to explore all ideas with open, questioning minds without being brainwashed by any party.

Remember at heart FF is the socialist party......They just forgot that part for ten years is all lol. Hopefully these young people remind them of that.

The sort who knows that 20 years down the line, there could be a nice 'grant' or board appointment in it. Why did young Russians join the Communist Party? To get ahead.

like young fg or labour are any bloody different. FF don't have a monopoly on gombeens, that is 100% sure and they certainly dont have a monopoly on arrogance. FG/Lab hacks on here showing that in spades

The next step is a slight turn by the electorate against FG and Lab after the budget the "your just the same as FF moment"

Then FF has to run a strong panel of young candidates in the local.

Come up with a policy platform that energizes the membership and potential membership

Be seen as a young party very different to the previous party governed by Ahern and Cowen in 2016/2121

    Then win an election.

The model is the Blairite reform and resurgence of Labour in the UK.

It'll take years, but it will happen and if during that path FF finds its soul and raison d'etre, it'll be a positive development. At the moment we have no opposition. That's not good for the country. We don't need FF as they currently exist but we do need a moderate centrist party capable of replacing the existing government if it needs to be replaced.

I was at it and I tell ye one thing... FF are on the way back. This is a new style FF too. Not like the old one. We will be like a nationwide Drumcondra Mafia. SG will be the Bert. He will be Taoiseach some day in the next ten years. FF are alive and well. Just not dancing around. It was a refreshing and insightful new FF get-together.
