Trinity College Dublin has been forced into a U-turn on controversial plans to have British National Party (BNP) leader Nick Griffin join a debate on immigration.

The university said it could not guarantee the safety and wellbeing of staff and students and has warned the party leader he will not be allowed on campus next week.

BNP party members have also been banned from the city centre grounds for the event.

A spokeswoman for Trinity said the invite had been withdrawn after staff and students objected.

The way to defeat people you disagree with is to get them to speak openly & challenge their opinions.

By this move, the AF brigade have stated that they believe the trinity students to be such sheep that mere exposure to griffin will turn them into bnp supporters.

I find it hard to understand the logic of trying to have a rational debate with someone who has no intentions of making a rational argument.

Groups like the BNP don't use platforms like this to try and win the debate or win the audience over. They play on the fears and prejudice of a minority of their audience to win over those who might be interested.

Griffin is a very poor speaker, the way to expose him is to let him speak.

The only reason for the BNPs existence is the persistent failure of the british government to acknowledge people's fears about mass immigration, anyone who merely suggested that flooding the UK with hundreds of thousands of 3rd world immigrants wasn't a good idea was denounced as a racist, fascist, nazi, xenophobe etc etc etc. The left ignore this & talk about the 'ignorance' of the average punter - bunch of fkwits, same attitude now in trinity, they obviously think that if griffin aka the Bogeyman is allowed to speak, that everyone who listens will become a jackboot wearing fascist overnight.
