Extending opening hours for nightclubs is a no-brainer, as is the complete elimination of the ridiculous 10pm limit for off-licence sales.

+1, 10.30 AM opening is also totally moronic. I prefer shopping early in morning (no queues, easy parking) but try buying a bottle of wine, no you have to wait until 10.30.

Don't get me started on the Good Friday nonsense.

That is because of our constitution, not because of Fianna Fail. If a referendum were held tomorrow that made any change to the protect of the family, to allow gay people to "marry", it would fail. Nothing government can do about it.

What makes you think that social dynamics can be changed overnight? Gay relationships were only very recently legalized in this country. Civil Partnership is a step towards full marriage rights. I'm sure if Mr. Norris is elected the dynamic will shift again and speed up that process but to assume FF is out to get gays and immigrants is wrong.

Also there is a difference between 'immigrant' and 'asylum seeker'. An immigrant willingly moves to another country or culture group whereas an asylum seeker is forced to do so by factors such as persecution, war etc.

With all the depression around I`m surprised the pubs haven`t reduced the price of a pint to about €2.50

The pubs would be packed again.
