On the 50th Aniversary of the Treaty of Rome there is the Berlin Declaration. In Rome at the same time Youth Representitives from the 27 member states gathered in Rome to formulate a Declaration on the back of the 2 years of Youth Forums on the EU that were taking place in each country.
Ireland held 6 National Youth Forums in this time.

The final document after much negociation is available to read here:
Rome Youth Declaration on the future of the EU

I was interviewed by RTE News at 9 last night at the summit. It got alot of attention and there will be follow up such summits. Commissioner Margot Wallstrom, Alejo Vidal-Quadras MEP and Former MEP Pat Cox were all present for the entire Youth Summit.

This is a real step forward for taking into account Young peoples opinions on the EU. I'd only wish the Irish Government gave the same level of input to Youth and Student issues as the Youth Pact demands in the Annex 1 of the Lisbon Strategy 2000-2010.
