Here is Chris Matthews interviewing the man who carried the gun at the event.

I was really impressed at the gun owners ability to calmly deflect all the emotional attacks and appear very reasonable and logical.

    Hardball with Chris Matthews
OK, which do you believe? This passage that you quoted earlier?

Gun rights do not extend to brandishing guns in the presence of the president. Any fool who choses to do so should lose his gun ownership privileges.
Or this jackass who carried the gun today, who said he thought the whole even would've been "safer" if the entire crowd had been armed?

And safer from what, do you think?

i believe he should not have brought the gun to the event - however he is right when he says if you do not excercise your rights you will lose them

also many studies have been done that the areas which have the highest gun ownership have the lowest violent crime.

In fact Switzerland has a very high personal gun ownership rate and one of the lowest crime rates in europe

In the right to bear arms debate, pro-gun Americans point to Switzerland, where almost every adult male is legally required to possess a gun. One of the few nations with a higher per capita rate of gun ownership than the United States, Switzerland has virtually no gun crime.
What America can learn from Switzerland about gun ownership. (modified title)

    non story...

if anyone brandished a gun within sight of a president these days, the gunman would have more holes in him than a teabag within 5 seconds...

I can't believe that matthews went so soft on that fool in the interview. The idiot could not even name one freedom that was supposedly taken away from him. He also had nothing whatsoever to say to say about healthcare. He, of course, mentioned Socialism and New York, L.A. etc.

This guy is a product of the dumming down of America by the Right wing. These people are incapable of thinking for themselves, frightened and easily controlled by their masters.

Funnily Swiss people don't point to America as an example of responsible gun ownership. Perhaps it's because swiss people are trained to use their weapons responsibly and don't just stock up on Glocks at the local gun shop.
We should be shaping an Ireland based on full respect for the human and civil rights of all our people, an Ireland of which Larkin and Connolly would be very proud.
