"If Stephen Hawking lived in the UK he'd be dead"

This quote from a right wing - anti-universal healthcare editorial sums up the quality of the opposition to Obama's health care plan.

Wonkette : Important Editorial: If Stephen Hawking Lived In The U.K., He Would Be Dead

I have to wonder if the US political class might be a bit less dumb if their mother's anti-natal care had been free and universal.

Well, I think the UK provided Hawking more than others with the same disability got. So for this particular individual, I believe the editorial was wrong.

Now, since you brought up the subject, how about commenting on Ezekiel Emanuel (brother to the evil Rahm) who has been tapped as a White House Health Care policy adviser. Doesn’t he advocate that public deliberative forums should decide which health services should be socially guaranteed? Also that services provided to individuals who are irreversibly prevented from being or becoming participating citizens are not basic and should not be guaranteed?

Irish posters believe there are people dying on the street with broken bones because they can not afford healthcare. I pointed out to that lug hopiwatcher that in Massachusetts everyone gets care even illegals but still he rants horseshythe.

He is oblovious to the crap system in Ireland where 2 parliamentarians resigned their party whip because their local cancer unit closed.

I was living in Washington state and in order for the state to pay for you're healthcare you had to earn under $200 per month. In fairness they would pay for anti-natal care if the mother earned less than $26000 per anum.

Illegal aliens just had to give their hospital bills to the dept of human services and it would be sorted out. Where people over there get screwed is those on minimum wage whose employers don't offer health cover, or is two expensive to buy on low income. Ours was pretty expensive. It ran us about $230 per month for basic cover

Would you support a nation wide roll out of the Massachusetts system?

I don’t know of lack of care, but care for patients who can’t speak English (other than the magic words “chest pains” which grants them immediate access to emergency rooms) for their children with mild case of the sniffles DOES!

Just ask my father who waited over 3 hours bleeding to death while illegals went in and out of the emergency room like clockwork… Oh wait, you can’t.

Can you tell me which towns in the US, that like Sligo have populations less than 18,000 people, have dedicated, state funded and free at the point of need, specialist cancer hospitals?

For that matter, can you tell me which towns of 18,000 people have two members of Congress representing them?

Anyone else see the underlining position of social darwinism in this?

What I basically see him saying is that if healthcare is provided equally and universally to everyone, specially gifted people like Hawkings won't get as good a standard of healthcare (either because they will get a standard level or because R&D in the private sector will be hindered by socialised medicine). This in effect is him saying that the average joe on the street should be allowed do without any sort of healthcare so that gifted members of society and those who can afford it can get brilliant healthcare.

    Social darwinism in action.

For that matter, can you tell me which towns of 18,000 people have two members of Congress representing them?
Show me anywhere in Ireland that has a single member of Congress representing them?

Two different scenarios. It's so incredibly ludicrous to compare Ireland and America in any fashion. The US is a federalised state, it operates completely differently and it's representation system is completely different.
