Bush is rumoured to be planning to pardon him at the end of his term.Pollard delivered over 1000 classified documents to Israel for which he was well paid. Included in those documents were the names of over 150 US agents in the Mideast, who were eventually “turned” into agents for Israel. But by far the most egregious damage done by Pollard was to steal classified documents relating to the US Nuclear Deterrent relative to the USSR and send them to Israel.

For the Republicans to become competitive again they need to become a national party again -and that means, whether they like it or not, appealing to New England, the rest of the North East and the Pacific states again.

Take New England for instance. The GOP basically gave the Democrats 34 electoral votes -the same as Texas- without even a token campaign anywhere but New Hampshire, and even there it was token. Since 2000 the number of GOP senators there have fallen from 6 to 3 and the number of Congressmen to zero, despite the NH first district being gerrymandered to produce a GOP incumbent! Without Senators Jeffords, Chaffee and Sununu leading their campaigns in Vermont, Rhode Island and New Hampshire respectively the party's electability dies in those states and declines elsewhere, because these were the moderate faces of the GOP. And make no mistake about it, when Senators Gregg, Snowe and Collins retire the GOP won't have a hope in hell of holding those seats -they are personal fiefdoms, nothing more.

If the GOP get their act together there even if they don't win them they will at least force democrats to spend money contesting them -which can only help the GOP.
