Obama buys a 1/2 hr slot on prime time TV

Drudge is reporting this now [edit CNN confirm]

    THR

Barack Obama has purchased a half-hour of airtime on CBS, sources confirm. The Obama campaign will air a half-hour primetime special on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 8 p.m.
Sources say the Obama camp is also in talks with NBC and Fox. NBC is said to be very near a deal. With Fox, the matter is likely to remain uncertain as the time period could conflict with Game 6 of the World Series.

It's not unprecedented for a candidate to buy longform broadcast network time, though it hasn't happened in a while. In October 1992, Perot drew audiences of 16.5 million and 10.5 million for 30-minute lectures/campaign ad aimed at voters.
Right next to the election, the country in crisis, he will talk for 30 minutes? That's some fund raising advantage...

How much exactly does Obama want to win by? Give poor JSM a break, it'll be hilarious if Fox take the cash..can't wait to see it.

They'll have to take the cash - unless they want to be called socialists or some other such terrible insult.

I wonder how much it would cost to bump the O'Reilly factor from the schedule?

Would anyone really want to listen to any politician giving a 30 min speech coming up to an election? If I planned on voting for someone and they started to do something like this, which is really overkill, I'd most likely change my mind. A huge waste of money! Save his argument for the debates

Not at all. There's a crisis, people are afraid and want to hear from the people who are going to lead them.

This is a great idea from Obama. He gets 30 minutes of uninterrupted airtime to talk to the nation, a State of the Union-type address that can only make him look presidential.

Based on the prices for 30-second prime-time slots, each 30-minute slot will cost him between $4,800,000 and $7,500,000!

It just proves that corporate backed right wing politicians will always dominate the media. Also the fsct that most mainstream media is owned by millionaire capitalists doesn't help!

Can you please cite sources that prove Obama's financial backing is exclusively or predominantly from Corporations ?
