But he's not bringing it up to discuss the Keating 5 or make people cast back to 1989 (?) and dwell on the particulars of the case. He's bringing it to chip away at people's trust in McCain and the "maverick outsider maverick" image he tries to sell for himself. What Obama has over McCain and his use of Ayers is that "Keating 5" is part of the vernacular--and McCain was one of those 5. He received a reprimand from the Senate Ethics Committee for poor judgment. There's a solid paper trail and connection. Any link between Obama and Ayers are much more tenuous and therefore harder to sell--for those who might be inclined to believe them.
