umm, dunno. Given that half the Bible belt is now conducting prayer meetings in the gas stations trying to get the price down and Putin and his Merry Men have a lot of say over who gets Russian fossil fuels, and at what price, I dunno. Which frightens people more, ideology.... or fuel shortage economics. Tough call. Your analysis also requires the American electorate to distinguish between Communism and the country that fostered it...given some of the things I've heard rural Americans especially say on the TV over the last few years...I dunno. This is the nation that elected Dubya, and 70% actually believed Saddam was behind 911

You're right about the Obama campaign though. The town hall debates should also be taken up. Frankly, if Obama can't manage the debates, we should all know now!

The RCP (RealClearPolitics) polling average now shows that Obama's lead has shrunk to a statistically insignificant 1.9 per cent. Interesting times ahead.

I don't think many people in the U.S. think of Russia when they worry about energy security. The Middle East, Canada, Mexico, Venezuela, yes...Russia, not so much.

New Reuters/Zogby Poll - McCain 5 points ahead!

    http://www.reuters.com/article/polit...080820?sp=true

In a sharp turnaround, Republican John McCain has opened a 5-point lead on Democrat Barack Obama in the U.S. presidential race and is seen as a stronger manager of the economy, according to a Reuters/Zogby poll released on Wednesday.

McCain leads Obama among likely U.S. voters by 46 percent to 41 percent, wiping out Obama's solid 7-point advantage in July and taking his first lead in the monthly Reuters/Zogby poll.

The only thing I'll say about McCain is that 5 years as a POW wasn't long enough considering he mass murdered civillians.

Well China is still communist and I dont hear many americans calling for war with China. Most Americans are smart enough to figure out where the threat comes from. Remember 47% of Irish Voters saw the Lisbon Treaty as a good thing. We can really castigate American dumbness can we after that?

Perhaps the republicans think their olds tyle and experienced guy will look like he could handle an old style cold war with the russians better than the rookie Obama.

Plus a range of new State polls on RCP show McCain surging ahead in a number of the key marginals.
