Obama will be the first black man neocon to be US President

John Waters, who is in my opinion is a hippie, thinks that Obama is a sell out. Obama has resiled from his previously held positions on Iraq and social justice. Obama criticises 1960s utopianism, peace and free love and all that. Waters seems to think that the 60s and 90s were some sort of utopia. Bill Clinton was the closest thing to Peter Pan in the white we have ever had.
Waters it seems bought into Obama’s so called idealism of change and is only now coming round to the fact that it was a ploy to bet Hillary’s pragmatism. If Obama wants to get into the white house he has to convince many of the conservatives to vote for him, because he knows that nobody gets into the white house without the conservatives supporting them. A simple fact about America is that the majority of it is conservative. This fundamental idea seems not to have penetrated Waters skull yet, it probably never will. Personally I think it matters little who get into the big chair. Obama and McCain will lead America in a similar direction.

In the same way as once we had JFK in office, America was never the same again and Irish people everywhere finally felt they were accepted, I think a black president who won his position on merit against fierce competition will give some confidence and hope to black Americans and help to heal their societys troubled past.

Many see Condoleeza Rice as a 'token' hispanic in government. Can anyone see a President of the USA as ever being a 'token president' ?

Perhaps. Does the President actually run the country?

Ahem...I think a trip to specsavers may be required by these people. :P

From Wikipedia - "Rice was born in Birmingham, Alabama, and grew up in the neighborhood of Titusville. She traces her roots to pre-revolutionary African Americans in the American South. "

Calling him a neocon is daft considering he's calling for talks with Iran - something that is anathema to most of the Republican party.

If Obama were to get in it would be a boon for Kenya. But I have a feeling it will take more than a half African American president to turn things around in Africa. Also bear in mind that the next American president is probably going to have to focus on domestic concerns in the states.

It seems to be that very few people, perhaps it's just those outside the US, seem to understand exactly what a neocon is.

I made the same observation about this thread. Does anyone even understand the position of the neocons within the Republican Party - or the fact that they originated from the left, many in the Democratic Party but changed over?
