NRA Set To Fund $40M campaign against Obama

The National Rifle Association plans to spend about $40 million on this year’s campaign, with $15 million of that devoted to portraying Barack Obama as a threat to the Second Amendment rights upheld last week by the Supreme Court.

“Our members understand that if Barack Obama is elected president, and he has support in the Senate to confirm anti-gun Supreme Court nominees, [the District of Columbia v. Heller decision] could be taken away from us in the future,” Chris Cox, head of the NRA’s political arm, told Politico.

The politically powerful gun rights group will split its message efforts between communicating with its 4 million members and the tens of millions more firearms owners across the country.

This fall, NRA members will get automated phone calls, mail pieces and pre-election editions of the group’s three magazines making the case against Obama. More broadly, the group will use an independent expenditure effort to hammer the Democratic nominee via TV, radio and newspaper ads in some of about 15 battleground states in the Midwest and Mountain West.

“We look forward to showing him ‘bitter,’” Cox said, referring to Obama’s statement this spring that some in rural America “cling” to guns and religion out of bitterness.
Heard this from Fox News just there.

    McCains gun record:
Voted NO on background checks at gun shows. (May 1999)

Voted YES on loosening license & background checks at gun shows. (May 1999)
(Who needs a background check right I mean it's just a lethal weapon)

Opposes restrictions on assault weapons and ammunition types. (Sep 2007)

Voted against Brady Bill & assault weapon ban. (Aug 1999)
(because a handgun is not enough to get rid of the mugger, you need an M-4 assault rifle to really scare him away)

Guns are a problem, but so are violent web sites & videos. (Aug 1999)
(because Grand Theft Auto is as equally dangerous as a glock 5)

So, in summary, McCain and NRA = Nuts/lacking in common sense = more independent voters for Obama

Ah but this isn't probably the last of big money spinning right-wing organisations funding for McCain. The war against Obama from the American right is only just beginning. Expect to see a lot more of this.

The problem with them is, they are VERY predictable, his campaign knows exactly what they are gonna come up with, I could probably guess the exact words of the patriotism attack from the 527 ad thats gonna be broadcast, their predictability is their flaw, because it's easy to prepare for them.

Oivey, I'm really not bothered to argue against you on guns but if one third party group is going to spend that kind of wedge against Obama there will be many others. Obama's fundraising advantage(what a hypocrite) will disapear closer to the conventions, so will his poll lead. McCain ought to take a July off. He's not under pressure right now.

The problem with messing with the NRA is you're effectivley starting to toy with the possibility of getting unpopular with the white male vote.

Not all white males are in the NRA and they usually vote republican anyway.
