    Its gonna be a Senator

Apart from JFK in 1960, who was the last serving Senator to be elected President? The likes of Dole, Kerry, McGovern, Goldwater, Stevenson etc. all managed to be nominated but lost out. Was Harding a Senator in 1920?

Where is caulfield the yank when you need him?

    Yes.
Nothing will motivate the lazy / apathetic / Americanised / west-British types to embrace their culture and the Irish language.

Not President but Al Gore gave up his Senate seat to become VP in '93. Johnson did the exact same in 1960 before succeeding JFK. And yeah, Harding was the first ever President to come straight from being a sitting Senator in 1921 and the next after that was Kennedy.
