According to all other sites he HASN'T endorsed Obama. He has endorsed the Democrats and said he backs both candidates and would support either. He said simply that he thought Obama would get the nomination.
In no sense is that a candidate-specific endorsement.

This thread title is an untruth and ought to be changed.

West Virginia Senator (since 1958) Robert Byrd (91) has now endorsed Obama in defiance of the will of his state. Obama will be the nominee, though the gap has narrowed to 5% in one poll in Oregon. The party will choose Obama not because he is the most electable of the 2, but because the party wants to cling onto the loyalty of the African-American vote, on which many, many of their House and Senate seats depend (especially in the South). For them, losing the presidency is a lesser price to pay.
Byrd is a former member of the Ku Klux Klan by the way, the times sure are a changin'
I predict Obama will win Oregon by about 12 points, 74% of Democrats there have already voted via post etc so polls at this stage are almost meaningless.
Have seen reports of Buffett endorsement on Drudge, Huffington and CNN nothing objective about it yet though

The interview was with Becky Anderson of CNN so I think I'll hold the headline
Drudge and other sites make it clear that CNN's spin is false. He said he was endorsing BOTH candidates, would not side with either, would support whichever one was nominated, thought Obama will probably get the nomination but that he would work to ensure the Democratic candidate, not Obama and not Clinton, was the next president.Originally Posted by The Red Rose of Cork
AP, a far more reliable source than CNN, makes it quite clear.
The AP report is here.FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) - Billionaire investor Warren Buffett said Monday he would be happy if either Barack Obama or Hillary Rodham Clinton were the Democratic nominee because both have what it takes to be president.
Buffett, who dubbed himself "a political bigamist," explained that he told both candidates that they would have his support when they were deciding to run for president.
. . .
As for Republican John McCain, Buffett described him as a "first-class human being. I think he's admirable. I don't agree with him as much as I agree with Barack. I think the U.S. will do well over time whether the president becomes Barack or John McCain."
Please correct the thread title.

Eh? Defiance of the will? (actually quite appropriate, given his background)Originally Posted by FutureTaoiseach
FT - just because a state's democratic primary chose one or 'tother candidate, this doesn't have any binding effect on that state's senators. It isn't exactly defiance. The other WV Senator, Jay Rockefeller, also endorsed Obama.
Of course, with the same implacable logic shown in the media lately, I'm quite sure that Byrd's backing for Obama now shows that Obama actually hates black people, dons a white sheet in the dead of night and burns crosses outside schools.
