McCain's reckless economic plans

Looks like fiscal responsibility can be added the growing number of areas where John McCain has simply abandoned the independent, "moderate" persona he has taken in the past, in order to increase his support among the hard-right. Is there anything of the Maverick left, or is he now just a right-wing android much like his former opponent Mitt Romney?
