New Poll puts Edwards ahead of Obama in Iowa

The latest Poll in Iowa has shown Obama drop below John Edwards. The public in the US have seen through his "I'm a new face" argument it seems.

    Clinton 30%
    Edwards 29%
    Obama 22%

A Clinton for President, Edwards for VP ticket for the Democrats? at least their playing field is clear now

According to Rasmussen, Edwards beats Hillary in how positively the electorate views them. Edwards is thought positively of by 49% and negatively by 42%, whereas Hillary is positively perceived by 48% and negatively by 50%. If I were them I'd choose Edwards. Only Southerners have won the presidency for the party since the 1970's.

Illinois. But she was First Lady of Arkansas and polls there indicate a tie if Huckabee runs for the GOP, though otherwise Hillary is in the lead there. No Dem has ever won the presidency without at least one southern state.

CNN says differently. Clinton and Obama are within the margin of error.

    Clinton 33

    Obama 31

    Edwards 22

there seem to be so many different poll's that contradict whom is no 2 after clinton that its a pretty save bet to say that for all three is going to be close, though odds have to favour Clinton taking it

I think the new poll in the Des Moines Register is better, actually:

    GOP:
    Giuliani..........5
    Huckabee.......32
    McCain..........13
    Paul..............9
    Romney........26
    Thompson.....9

    DEM:
    Biden...........4
    Clinton.........25
    Dodd...........2
    Edwards.......24
    Kucinich.......1
    Obama.........32
    Richardson....6

    Sample: 800
    Margin of error: 3.5

Am surprised to see Obama in front but it's still close. Edwards third in almost every poll i've seen. On the GOP side, I still think Huckabee will fall significantly before the day, but I'm not so sure now. I still say Romney to win, McCain third, but I think Huckabee's level of support is important.

given the min 15% support required, it could well be decided on the second choice's of the supporters of the smaller candidates in the Democratic Party (don't think that the same min 15% applies to the GOP)

Obama's supporters are disproportionately among the young who traditionally do not vote, and I think that will cost him the prize on this occasion.
