Proclaiming the leader of the most violent country on Earth as 'Person of the Year" is laughable. I deserves the same reaction we would give to a Russian magazine who made a similar proclamation about Putin. Childish, inward looking, propagandist, vacuous tripe.
Well -he's not the only one - Enda Kenney received the same honour a few weeks ago.

So no mention of blowing up innocent women and children then, no?

More the fool who takes this serious.

In the US, mass child killings are tragedies. In Pakistan, mere bug splats | George Monbiot | Comment is free | The Guardian

Comparing U.S. domestic violence to third world violence is ridiculous. Those who study the numbers know that third world violence is by its nature higher than that of the United States.

My own wish list (in no particular order):

    • End the War on Terror/ End drone strikes
    • Accomplish Afghan withdrawal
    • End the War on Drugs
    • Close Guantanamo
    • Assist in setting up a Palestinian State
    • Encourage Israel to make peace with its neighbours.
    • Back the progress to democracy and peace in the Middle East
    • End dependence on Middle East Oil by the US
    • Begin the painful business of weaning the US off fossil-fuels
    • Come to a wide-ranging understanding with China that ends superpower rivalry
    • Come to an understanding with China to mitigate climate change
    • Begin US demilitarisation
    • Takes the US back to being a powerful innovative force in the world economy
    • Gets to appoint enough Liberal Supreme Court Justices to gain a majority on the court
    • Starts to diminish the power of corporate money and lobbying in US politics

Basically, Obama has to set the USA's agenda for the next generation, if not the next century. He is now free from the unreal expectations of 4 years ago, and maybe above the bitterness and hatred directed at him.

Eh, tell me why you weren't supporting Ron Paul again?

Apart from all the overseas interventionist stuff, it seems you backed the wrong horse. That, of course being a warmongering, corporatist shill that had to get both his competitors thrown off the ballot to actually win a Senate seat. Obama epitomizes everything that is wrong with politics in America. And you want this guy to diminish money in politics? For crying out loud, you'll need a stat procedure before the body-snatcher ejects itself out of your chest.
