Not at all. I was reading about this 'compromise' last night and figured - along with most other opinions I read, that it actually a brilliant tactical move. He's got what he wants which is universal access to contracepton for American women and whether it was an intended consequence or not American women are more pissed of than ever with Republican politicians playing politics with their wombs. It's a win win scenario for Obama as polls continue to show positive for him.

In addition since 98% of catholic women of child bearing age use contraception this ginned up controversy may also have the added benefit of turning even more women of the god damned awful Catholic Church.

Has it or has it not achieved the goal of universal contraception access for women? He may not have planned this precise sequence of events but the way it's developed and his solution have resulted in the best outcome for both Obama and women. Put it this way if Planned Parenthood and NARAL are happy with this outcome - and they are - women will be happy and Obama is already more popular with women than men. More votes for Obama come November. The religiously rigid weren't going to be voting for him anyway so they're no loss.

Unlike Irish women who had to go to Newry for it not that long ago.

Polls say otherwise Rash. Most liberal catholics are not one issue voters so even the few that had their nose out joint wouldn't have withheld their vote from Obama - even more so now that Obama has been seen to take their views into account. And right wing catholics won't have altered one whit in their voting intentions anyway. But millions of women got to see the grubby hand of Republicans reaching for their ovaries yet again. If you don't think all this hasn't fired up the womens vote you don't understand women. I've been reading the facebook and web sites since the start of the Komen assault on Planned Parenthood and women who were already simmering with rage at the daily news of yet another bill proposed by GOP old men to attack womens rights - well they've reached nuclear detonation! Any who sat at home in apathy in 2010 have all the reason in the world to get to the polling booth this year.

Obama won 54% of catholic vote in 2008. He will be closer to 44% in 8 months time.

We'll see. Many catholic women and men were pretty angry that despite no fuss over this practice already in place for years in 26 states by either the Bishops or the GOP they tried to use this issue to undermine Obama. Many see it as Rome Rule interference in the sovereignity of their country. Many are angry that the clergy chose womens contraception to create a storm while keeping their heads down over child abuse. And of course there are many, many women who have no connection with the RCC at all who are very angry indeed with Republicans over this.

Frankly not a day goes by when the GOP don't demonstrate for all who care to see that they have no interest whatsoever in the economy of the country and the problems of the majoity of it's citzens. Every media report of intrusion into womens rights by the GOP is gold dust for Obama. The GOP dismiss minorities and the LGBT community in the mistaken belief that going after their vote is not worth the effort but women are at least 50% of the electorate (in fact I read somewhere recently that women vote in larger numbers than men in the US). Let them continue to alienate that huge segment and we'll see what way female Independent voters jump come November.

Are any of you slightly sickened by the sight and sound of fat old men wearing long black dresses and wearing white collars objecting to the use of contraception by women and girls.

    Nasty images abound.

    Isn't it funny how a compromise you don't like is a flip-flop!
Unenthusiastic about any of the buggers.
