Why is there no Left Wing Tea Party? Fukuyama

SPIEGEL Interview with Francis Fukuyama: 'Where Is the Uprising from the Left?' - SPIEGEL ONLINE - News - International

Fukuyama says he is at a loss to answer this question.

" Where is this uprising from the left? This is a crisis that began on Wall Street. It really was rooted in the particular American model of liberalized finance. It hurt ordinary people tremendously, and it benefited the richest part of the country -- the finance sector -- which came through the crisis very well, thanks to government bailouts. You would have thought that this would pave the way for a rise of left-wing populism as seen in the 1930s. A Tea Party on the left, so to speak."

did he miss the whole "Occupy Wallstreet" movement?

Of course, left wing groups are less likely to get unlimited funding from oil billionaires, unlike the tea party.

Maybe he meant an actual viable moment as opposed to a bunch of unwashed kids who, like, you know, totally don't like the banks any more dude.

He does mention the Occupy Movement but is doubtful of their capacity to connect with bluecollar workers .

It's not so strange. Marx pointed out that labour movements can be cowed in a time of recession. It's during the recovery that they become emboldened. Or, to quote, That Petrol Emotion: 'Economies get weaker / reactionaries get stronger': That Petrol Emotion - Big Decision (Promo) - YouTube

Correct. Occupy Wall Street is the voice of the people whereas the Tea Party is the voice of Rupert Murdoch.

Fukyama is a fool who looks so hard for a historical grand narrative that he doesn't bother looking at the world we live in.
