    It seems that the Republican right depend for a significant percentage of their votes on the most stupid, ignorant and worst educated section of the US population, which of course helps to explain how absolute planks like Dubya get elected from time to time. Sadly their supporters on politics.ie appear to think it is a badge of honour.

    Some republicans are just dumb. French Canadians make up a large percentage of voters, republican voters at that, in New England, and don't like their language being disrespected. We get enough of that in English Canada. Romney was shown speaking French with a rural French Canadian in a New Hampshire diner and it did wonders for his popularity in the community.

    That's not to mention the massive Cajun community in Louisiana (a Republican state).

    French is not just the language of the French. Imagine if one accused the Americans of being English. Ah, that's Republican operatives for you.

    Do they not teach Americans that the French played no small part in founding their State.
