It now of never for Palin. She has to declare because with a 9-11 based inquiry potentially dragging Murochs Fox News into the dock, she has to choose.

Personally I think this is the end for her, she is dead in the water for 2012 at any rate. Her Fox career was a necessary spring board for Palin, without GOP backing. But thats gone and her association with Murdoch would be enough to cause her further difficulty in any run off. Practically all her opponents could show a clean pair of heels on the issue, while Palin would be denigrated by the same hysterical quater she tries to pander too.

Be it rabble rouser or media darling, neither seem to work in her favour right now. Its also noteworthy that while Palin dithers, her opponents can made much capital on slating her employer.

If she can get out of this and make of fist of it I would be amazed.

Her problem is much like Rick Perry's at the moment ... Michelle Bachmann jumped first (and fair play to her!) so if Palin (or Perry) runs, they might just all cancel each other out and give a clear run to Romney.

Good summation. The impact of the 'female candidate' card is lost to Palin now. Bachmann seems to have not only a head start, but more cred than Palin.

I agree Romney seems the likely one to suceed. But I cannot see him beating Obama, and even if he did, he seems to represent a more liberal strand of the GOP. It will be harder for rivals attacks on him over healthcare to be heard over the general feeding frenzy if Fox, through Murdoch, is tied to the 9-11 hacking scandal. This will be a very interesting race.

A last hurrah for Palin? It would seem her only remaining chance to hog some limelight. Any run off is going see the eventual winner probably bring the Tea Party to heal.

Its hard to see the Tea Party having sway in the GOP after the caucuses, not if they don't have 'their' candidate. They are marginal enough as it is. Straying further and not rowing in leaves them too far from the core Republican identity for many Tea Party members to be comfortable with.

The perception is that Murdochs publications are most tightly tied to the Republican party. But are there any of his myriad titles in the US that are pro-Democrat?
