General McChrystal ordered home after apologising for calling White House "wimps".

The top US war commander in Afghanistan apologised today for a magazine interview that mocks senior Obama officials.

Rolling Stone magazine depicts General Stanley McChrystal as an outcast in the White House, unable to convince some of his own soldiers that he can win the war.

McChrystal being the one who said he voted for Obama, was rather disappointed having met the President to discuss his plan for Iraq (said the President was clueless about the situation) and has no love for the VP at all, though did say he liked both Clinton and Gates who were knowledgable about the war in Iraq.

He's already apologised for calling White House staff wimps, but now he's been called back to Washington.

    Here's the Rolling Stone Article.

You don't win a war by being PC. The White House need to let the NATO troops take the gloves off and go for it. Obama thinks another "Let me be clear" speech will win over the Islamist knuckle draggers when all it does is encourage them.

Well if you look at his support numbers among the more moderate Islamic states it's falling.

Take the gloves off like they did in Iraq?

Taking the gloves off risks harming civilians. You don't win wars by harming civilians. You antagonise the locals and turn them into informers for the Taliban and recruits.

I suspect the Taliban can't be beaten and the best long term solution is to contain them in the South and fight a long war of attrition.

Afghanistan will probably be a harder war to win than Iraq. In Iraq many of the militants were foreigners and usually stuck out like a sore thumb and were mostly despised by locals.

In Afghanisatan, the Taliban are for the most part locals, a bit like in Vietnam. They attack the NATO troops during the day and in the evening they go home to their wives and families probably in the same village. And its hard to get informers in that situation.

The Brits did it in Oman and in Malaysia. It can be done. You need to hit the hive and that means rattling the sabre at Pakistan and the ISI and flushing the Taliroaches out of Peshawar where they are sitting pretty. Also it is pointless fighting and killing the cannon fodder at the bottom. Most of them are impoverished peasants. A few of the head honcho hate preachers need to be found face down in the gutter of a fine morning to get the ball rolling. After all they want to be martyrs so give them the chance.

I hope they fire his ass.

The last time he leaked his requests for more troops to force the President's hand. Now he's trying to flaunt his "superiority".

There is more than a whiff of McArthur from this clown. Screw him.

They have to have an election for that, but it doesn't look good for him.
