So people's private sex lives shouldn't be the business of the school?

Why should the children be expelled because of the behaviour of their parents?

I'll believe it when I see it.

It's hard to tell whether people are being purposefully nescient on the obvious difference between knowledge of a detail of a couples sexlife which is impossible to ascertain (condom usage between a married couple); compared to the obvious Catholic faux pas of two men or two women sharing a bed and living as a couple publically and all that is blatant to extrapolate from that. Are the lesbian couple genuinely claiming to be celibate?

It's not about whether you or I like their view, it's about whether it's within their rules or not. I wouldn't try to join a Jewish organisation or an Islamic one and expect them to alter their rules for me. If my worldview is not in line with theirs, then I simply choose not to join their club or leave if i'm already in it.

Catholic teaching considers homosexual acts as a sin that "crys out to heaven for vengeance". There's only four other sins in this little group of sins. That puts it pretty high up the Catholic league table of sins against God. It also teaches about the scandal of certain sins, which is basically if a sin is public, then it gives bad example to others and is therefore worsened in the eyes of God. In the case of the OP; obviously the school felt that the parents lifestyle would have an ongoing effect on the children being raised by homosexual parents and in a situation where the family will continue to live in this way, therefore that the children will be "scanadilised" (influenced basically) and as such not suitable to attend the school and would be better off going elsewhere for their education.

It's not about "liking" this worldview, it's about recognising the rule of a club that you disagree with and making a decision whether to leave or not. If this couple want to be Christians and carry on as a lesbian couple raising children; then they should simply become Protestants as their worldview is in line with the teaching of most of the 800 or so protestant churches, so they've a big list of churches to choose from.

I don't understand how is it possible to be confused by this?
    1) We're talking about enrolling a *child* to primary school as a Catholic.
    2) It is impossible that for this to be on any other basis than on the basis that their family/parent/guardians upholds the beliefs of the Catholic faith.
    3) This cannot concievably be said to be the case where said parent/guardians publicly disavows Catholic beliefs.
If this is unpleasant for you, then don't seek to enrol your child in a Catholic school on the basis that they are Catholic. Seek to enrol them on the basis that you live in the area or whatever.

To claim that this is discrimination on the basis of the sexual orientation of the parents simply shows complete ignorance of Catholic beliefs. This would not be a problem but for the accompanying determination to accuse in ignorance of the facts.

This is obviously unfair on the child, but I don't see how this can have occured in any other way than through dishonesty on the part of the parents. Or I suppose it could be due to a staggering level of ignorance about their own professed faith.

A tiny little bit of investigation would have cut this thread to a fraction of it's length.
