Our community of faith,” the bishops continue, “provides health care to millions, purchases health care for tens of thousands and addresses the failings of our health care system in our parishes, emergency rooms and shelters. This is why we as bishops continue to insist that health care reform which truly protects the life, dignity, consciences and health of all is a moral imperative and an urgent national priority.”

Nevertheless, they add, “we are convinced that the Senate legislation now presented to the House of Representatives on a ‘take it or leave it’ basis sadly fails this test and ought to be opposed.”

This "Hail Mary Pass" will be read out at every Mass tomorrow. The Stupak turncoats can no longer talk out of both sides of their mouths now
Keep spinning, Dan. The vote will pass.

And there's the conclusive proof. FutureTaoiseach says 215-220 against, thus the Bill is CERTAIN to pass. After all, this is the guy who predicted 8 seats for the PDs in 2007, "seatless growth for FG" when they actually won 20 seats, Lisbon 2 to be defeated, and McCain to beat Obama.

Why do people want this passed? Do they not know what this is about?

If Obama wanted a law passed that made it mandatory for people to kill their first born, will they be praying for it to go through congress and the senate as well?

An easy error FT. Congressman Massa, the eejit, only resigned last week and John Murtha died the week before. I am not sure myself where the other two are gone. They got sweat jobs I think.

Your prediction is noted, thank you

I always think the funniest thing about your wrongness is that you're always so utterly convinced about it.

A member of theDemocrat's Whips Office has told CNN they have 216 (the minimum number needed), but she would not (or could not) say which 216 they were.

If this passes it is as much an achievement of the fifrst woman Speaker, Nancy Pelosi, as of the first black President. The Majority Leader of the Senate, Henry Reid, is likely to lose his seat this November, so it was an act of great courage for him to persist with "unpopular" legislation, though it is much less unpopular than Pox News makes it out to be.

It is hard to call the vote because Pelosi, as soon as she is sure she has enough votes, may release some Congressmen from their pledges, if they have difficult elections in November.

Other news was that the Stupak holdouts over abortion were on the verge of a deal with the White House, which would bring in enough votes to put healthcare reform over the top. Disgracefully, the Catholic Church would prefer a regime which condoned torture, illegal wars and massive financial fraud to one that dissented from its views on reproductive rights.

    My Prediction. Obama Loses.
