Unfortunately force is the only way to deal with problem Travellers. Bullies need a taste or threat of their own thuggery.

Take note:“When the Travellers saw this incredible show of police force – it looked like a Hollywood movie – I think they got scared,” he said.

Indeed? I take it you consider anyone born in England, even to two Irish parents, to be 100% English with not the slightest claim to Irishness?

Do you oppose their right to an Irish passport?

They'd provide and manage Halting Sites and have their own mobile Child Welfare and Family Planning clinics, School Attendance Officers and so on. And they'd find doctors, dentists, opticians etc. who were prepared to treat Travellers.

Those Travellers who wanted to settle, and were assessed as suitable, could go into cheap prefabs and then if they kept up with the rent and were well-behaved - they could go into permanent public housing on little TA-managed estates.

And they'd be assisted by a special team of Garda - something similar to London's Operation Trident.

A Travellers going to prison would always go to the same prison, and their feet wouldn't touch the ground all the time they were in there. It would be like they were in the army. They'd be given good uniforms and they'd have to always be smartly turned -out; and they'd earn privileges if they learnt to read and write.

The TA would also find work for young Travellers. For instance they could demand that the Defence Force accepts Traveller recruits and at least trains them up to a standard where the British Army was prepared to recruit them.

Jack, Jack, Jack - look at yourself - you've become all angry, bitter and twisted and full of angst in your pants.

You'll only end up doing yourself a mischief if you keep on like this...

Why can't you have it in your heart to feel the love for this maligned and victimised community?

I've looked at as many of the newspaper articles on this that I could find, Mail, Times, Telegraph,(couldn't find it in the Expresss or Sun) and not one of them makes any reference to them being Irish travellers, or even travellers for that matter. I didn't hear it mentioned on any of the TV reports either.

This is a fresh newspaper report, only a few hours old ,referring to a halting site in Coolock, Co Dublin -

... The families on the site use generators for electricity, wood stoves for heat and Portaloos for toilet facilities. The caravans only have a light trickle of running water, not enough to power a shower or flush a toilet.

“All we’re asking for is the bare basic facilities for our children. We’re looking for proper running water, proper flushing toilets and a safe source of electricity,” Ms Reilly said.

The couple have three children, Jamesie (14), Ciaran (9) and Rebecca (7). Ciaran has Type 1 diabetes and requires insulin injections. The family has to keep his medication refrigerated, but the fridge is powered by the generator, which they cannot afford to keep on constantly ...

Number of Traveller families in overcrowded housing doubles
The Local Authorities can't or won't do fulfill their responsibilities. Over €1.2m in Traveller housing funding left unspent

Some new body needs to be established that will do the job.

That is my point. We cannot bemoan any media outlet describing them as Irish. We are more than happy to claim people as Irish if the story is a positive one.
