An independent Scotland and the ROI

Scotland's now an independent state and an EU member. What does this mean for the ROI and our vulnerable economy? Could Scotland be a mutually beneficial partner for Ireland in the British Isles and in Europe or would it mean another competitor for foreign investment and so on? The UK/NI angle has been done to death but I was wondering what short and long term, benefits and negatives Scottish independence might have on the Republic.

If it means having to listen to the likes of Peter Robinson whinge about how 'heartbroken' he will be (of was that Reg Empy?), I hope the issue is deferred. Indefinitely.

A guaranteed 12 points at Eurovision.
The Mahon Tribunal found Olivia Mitchell to have received an inappropriate payment from Frank Dunlop at the time of the 1992 Election. F.G. Gael has taken no action against her.

The Consolate General will get a snazzy new job title. And a new domain name. That's probably about it

Why would they need to be an EU member?

An independent Scotland would clearly be a competitor economy for jobs and investment at one level, and a strategic partner within the EU for that same reason.
Unenthusiastic about any of the buggers.

We'll welcome back Scotia Minor into the family after their dalliance with the Sassenach?

I think basically no economic difference. I mean, sure if you invest something you'll get something in return, but nothing extraordinary I'd have thought. It'd be interesting to see their attitude to the Euro however (or whatever Ireland is in at a point that becomes a pertinent question. we could have gone through 3 currencies by then).

Good point, but I wonder if there are not in fact a few more English people in Scotland than Irish? I know the Irish moved there in large numbers but the English have been crossing the border and visaversa in reasonable numbers in what might be a more constant stream, In another words, dont count your chickens.

Off topic and not overly important but if the British are the largest imigrant group in Ireland do we know how they break down in numbers of Scotts, English, manx, Lundy etc -sure i have missed one out -Oh yes sealanders. If we have to get new passports it might do just as well to get Irish ones? Perhaps they will drop the cost for those of us who have been here a while.
