Britain starts to implement new hate laws against muslims

Now I come to this with clean hands in that I am against laws prohibiting hate speech, but you apparently do not. Would you support such laws being applied to what others may see as hate speech against Muslims or blacks?

If hate speech is defined as a subcategory of what is generally called "incitement to violence", then I would be in favour of legislation against it.

I would be very wary, however, of comparing speeches against Islam and speeches against Blacks.

Islam is a set of opinions, which needs to be allowed to be subject to strident criticism, whereas blackness is a skin colour.

Saying people should face the death penalty for being gay is plain wrong and is an incitement to hatred. The fact that the accused are Muslims is incidental apart from the fact that the veil of “religious belief” is not being tolerated as an excuse for such actions.

again........a personal viewpoint is nothing really, but to take to the streets and try "stir up hatred", now thats different.

So...a book that tells people how to live tells them that gay men should be put to death....how's that not stirring up hatred?

I see it more as an incitement to violence rather than hatred, and I'd prefer it was prosecuted on that basis

Were any person or group to actively seek for such penalties to be imposed that would be incitement to hatred also. Luckily the number of wingnuts who actually interpret the old testament literally are few and far between.
