That is going against every study towards bilingualism there is . All This story is anecdotal evidence to say the opposite of what research shows .

    Bilingual benefits reach beyond communication

Are a couple of these reports ive yet to see one that backs up the statements in your links .

Sure some kids might do bad in school overall bilingual kids do better.

Whilst the brightest (like Daniel and some others who have posted here) have thrived, the less able, in my opinion, have suffered.
Nothing like a bit of anecdotal evidence to back up an assertion you already hold.

Standardized testing in the Republic and Northern Ireland has shown that kids going through Irish-language medium schools score higher than their socio-economic peers in Maths and English.

That has nothing to do with Irish- or Welsh-language medium education.

Secondly people who go to Gaelscoils overall do better in English and maths the ability to communicate is better than the people who just go to english speaking schools .

Do you have anything to say about the 'coolness' angle, Cytex?

Do you believe something strongly associated with 'school' is regarded as 'cool' by young people?

The coolness angle basically schools need support outside of school to make languages "cool", Give people the opportunity and the need to speak a language and they will cool will not come into it . Wales are actually doing a extremely good job at promoting the language making it cool with there own music industry and telly industry as well as clubs etc outside of classrooms they haven't made the language solely the responsibility of the education sector. we could learn a lot from them in this country.

Languages are neither cool or uncool they are a ability to think and speak and pass down language traditions from century's .
