Twenty four men rescued from travellers site. 'Believed to be victims of slavery'

Five arrests in 'slavery' raid at Greenacre travellers' site

Twenty-four men suspected of being held against their will have been found during a raid at a travellers' site.

Four men and a woman were arrested on suspicion of committing slavery offences in the raid at Greenacre travellers' site, Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, on Sunday.

The men, who are English, Polish and Romanian, were found in "filthy and cramped" conditions, police said.

Detectives believe some may have been there for up to 15 years.

Those arrested are being held on suspicion of committing offences under the Slavery and Servitude Act 2010.

They are being held at police stations across Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire.

Weapons, drugs and money were also found at the site, police said.

More than 200 officers were involved in the raids

truly disgusting in the twenty first century
I will only happily spend my money when the person serving me is Irish. Taxi's, Restaurants, banks, tradesmen etc. If everybody did, there would be a revolution.....

Tip of the iceberg I would say

Illegal immigrants are those most at risk here

I would not be under any illusions that there are cases here too

my brother employed tinkers to paint sheds on his farm four summers ago , most of the actual work was carried out by polish guys , the lead tinker told my boss that theese guys were on 80 euro per day and that they dont be long getting to know thier rights , sure when they arrived here off the plane , you could get away with paying them 20 euro per day , nice people

Modern day slavery is still common, but mostly through the pratice of indentured sevitide. On the face of it this however seems more like capitive slavery yes, and it would be truely shocking if the allegations turn out to have real substance. Can the timing of this revleation after 15 years, be a attributed of the current British governments hardening stance against 'lawless cutlure'?
