Sinn Féin Asked to Word Alternative Westminister Oath!

In a move aimed at getting Sinn Féin MPs to take their seats at Westminister NI Secretary of State, Owen Patterson has asked the party to come up with an alternative to the current Oath of Allegiance to the Crown.

What oath would you put in the mouths of these two chancers?

There is absolutely no chance of Sinn Féin taking seats in Westminister. The goal of the party is to move power from England to Ireland. The Good Friday Agreement was a small step along that path.

The movement of policing control to the north was to take the power from the English and put it in Irish hands. Everything we do is towards self determination of Irish people. We are not yet near that point but we are pushing towards it and we need all the help we can get.
It is more likely that Nelson Mandela becoming a White Supremacist.

Perhaps an act of contrition along with an apology to the Irish people

I believe you should look back at the reasons why the provisionals broke away from the officials in the first place in 1969.

They were because Sinn Fein were considering taking part in elections north and south, participating in Stormont and accepting crown forces in the north, all of which were an anthema to traditional republicanism.

Having now broken all these taboos, I see no reason why they should not now break one more.

SF is, after all, a British political party, with little support in the Republic of Ireland.

No participation in Westminster is likely to go the way of previous slogans, such as 'not an ounce, not a bullet'.

We, Gerry and Marty, do swear that we will be faithful and bear true allegiance to a badger named Stephen, his heirs and true successors. Tiocfaidh ár lá.

It is a great pity that the British did not show such flexibility in 1922. The oath of loyalty to the King was considered humiliating by the anti-treaty side.

The civil war which caused such loss of life among the Irish might have been avoided if the British had not insisted on that oath.

So who would put down the motion in the House of Commons to institute this change?
