    Irish Independent: Ahern The Liar

    Irish Independent: Ahern The Liar

I think an article by Senan Molony in today's Irish Independent is a very significant one.

    Some quotes:

It has been apparent a number of times before in evidence that the Taoiseach of the country has been lying under his own sworn oath, and thereby making it very difficult for others to be entirely candid.

Grainne Carruth now accepts that she was sent across from St Luke's to the AIB bank and the Irish Permanent Building Society with sterling for Bertie Ahern.

Each tranche was converted into Irish pounds and segments of the proceeds were undeniably lodged into Bertie's AIB bank account and IPBS building society account.

--- It appears that there is an implicit implication here that BA received a very large lump sum (or several large lump sum's) of sterling cash.

The fragmentary lodgments that betrayed their foreign exchange origins were supposedly the few pounds and pence left after payment of PAYE (no sniggering), once Mr Ahern had asked Grainne to take out a few grand and lodge the rest.

Even if Mr Ahern's Collector General payments could be shown to be in amounts totally at odds with those actually lodged, then he could always live in the claim of taking out odd amounts -- or adding them, whimsically -- in order to produce what turned up in the account.

The overall calculation was that the tribunal would not be able to prove otherwise.

Bertie lied because the Irish Permanent Building Society once told Tim Collins that it didn't have records going back that far.

Turns out that they did. The rotten edifice collapses.

Yes I was just reading the Indo, they are really putting the boot in, their reporting from the Tribunal yesterday is excellent journalism, it really put the events of the day in context, and the Taoiseach is in real trouble.

That was, more particlarly, the Sunday Independent. But even they have eased somewhat of late in championing the pathetic, stammering, jibbering user/liar.

Bertie the Liar - most probably

Bertie the goner - most probably not.

I wish I had a euro for every post in the last six months saying Bertie is a goner etc etc.

He has no intention of going and apart from the anti bertie posters on the site, no body really gives a rats. Poor Polish guys today, poor taxi driver the next day, poor english tourish getting his finger ripped off the next day etc etc it will all be forgotten in a while, the country is sliding further into a slime pit. Bertie has the audacity to come on today to tell everyone to drive carefully over the bank holiday weekend. I have said it before...water off a ducks back. Haugheys arrogance and brazeness has rubbed off on his apprentice. He is going nowhere and is arrogant enough to think he can become president one day.

If he does, here are enough muppets in the country who will still vote for him.
