McDowell is one of the best legal minds in the country. I'd rather he was on our side - ie the Moriarty Tribunal - than representing Denis O'Brien or Michael Lowry. And they would be just as free to employ him as the State.

People here should hold back on the kneejerk outrage and think a little about this before foaming at the mouth and battering keyboards.

McDowell talking on O'Brien and Lowry - and their witness - is a good thing for us all.

Is there not a conflict of interest here, he was Minister for Justice, and he defended the government of which he was part. And is Moriarty still flailing around looking for new angles, I thought report was long overdue.

It's like everything to do with the legal sector in Ireland--there are a small few at the top who inevitably come into contact with most players. Same with the big law firms advising the government as well as property developers. No cure for it really, just a result of being a small society.

McDowell is a very good barrister, and he would be a good asset to have on your side in a case. But I fail to see what good will be accomplished by bringing him on at this late stage. Maybe there is good reason for it but it strikes me as just another PD creaming it at taxpayers' expense.

It is DOB and ML who are looking for the new angles, they will not accept the result and will keep this Tribunal as long as they can.

Moriarty offered to publish the ML "money trail" report. which is ready, surprise surprise Govt said no they want it all together, more like they are afraid ML will have to resign his Seat.

He was both Attorney General and Minister for Justice but after the events being investigated by Moriarty.

He's just an 'ordinary' SC now and he has to earn a crust.

nobody is questioning his ability if you have served as AG then you deserve to be on a short list for most cases - the issue is transparency - who made the decision ?
