    Village Magazine slams O'Leary

Hilarious article on page 58 of the current 'Village Magazine'.
Entitled 'Environmental Profile: Michael O'Leary', by Michael Smith, the by-line is 'Still spoofing as polluter Ryanair tanks'.
There's a nice photy of Micko sucking his glasses and gurning in a familiar way - entitled 'a cheaposexual and a bore'.
    Yes, spot on.

The item goes on to review Micko's boorishness and money-losing performance.
    Here's a quote or three;

There is no-one in public life (now Bernard Manning's off terrestrial TV) who's better at saying f.uck, bast.ard, or fuc.king bas.tard. O'Leary simply lacks common decency. If thats a problem, he is a problem.
His unease with seeming to love the attention he gets as Ryanairs aeroclown is most likely brought on by an unloved, attention free few years in a boarding school where he was himself paid little attention, earning the intriguing name 'Ducksie' (answers on a postcard please); followed by a difficult period in Trinity College where, he has said, pretty girls would not talk to him.
he is under stress, with the analysts questioning his competence in fuel hedging....his vanity purchase of Aer Lingus shares, his profits down 85%, the loss of over 100M in the last quarter of 2008, the axing of routes and the mothballing of planes, offset confusingly by extravagant expansion plans - all against a background of declining tourism and air travel. But most of all what I want you to remember about O'Learys performance is that the share price today is TWO EURO AND SEVENTY EIGHT CENTS. O'Leary is consistent. He's even made Ryanair shares cheap. His stake is down from around 600M at peak to maybe 120M now. Humiliating.
The full article isn't online yet. You'll just have to go buy the mag for the rest!

But I'll be photo-copying it and sticking it on notice boards all over Dublin Airport.

You work for Village (for now at least), don't you, Kevin?
Every one sees what you appear to be, few really know what you are, and those few dare not oppose themselves to the opinion of the many, who have the majesty of the state to defend them.

Sounds interesting. About time somebody highlighted the image he presents to the rest of Europe as "a leading Irish businessman". He is certianly the loudest Irish businessman and he is the one people in Europe think of first when asked about Irish businessmen.

    It is our image too.

The Village Magazine? They have alot in common with AerLingus ¬!

They both make masive losses, neither AerLingus or Village Magazine are commercially viable.

But Colada is saved, AerLingus is saved, Colada may have an irrational dislike of Michael O'Leary but Colada occasionally cheerleads some other people

Last year Colada almost wet himself with joy over a Mr Stuart Pearson
'billionaire investor' he was Coladas white Knight, not much was known about Mr Pearson but Colada had faith in Mr Pearson

Well, The Irish Times tracked Mr. Pearson down....

'Billionaire investor' is sweet-shop owner - The Irish Times - Fri, May 15, 2009

A “BILLIONAIRE” businessman linked with a string of high-profile potential investments has been identified as a sweet-shop owner based in rural Co Kilkenny.

Stuart Pearson (25), a native of Co Wicklow, lives in a rented house in the village of Goresbridge and operates the shop at a rented premises in the nearby town of Graiguenamanagh.

Over the past year, there have been claims in national and regional media that he was the head of a major investment company which sought to acquire a 30 per cent stake in Aer Lingus; was approached by SR Technics to invest “€25 million” in the troubled avionics company; and had offered “€450 million” to acquire failed Northern Ireland property company Taggart Holdings.

His profile on the Wikipedia internet site refers to the Arklow-born businessman as having “interests in property development, retail, insurance [and] horse breeding”, adding his “personal wealth is valued at over €3 billion”. The entry claimed Mr Pearson had inherited substantial wealth. It also said he collected vintage Jaguar cars and used a helicopter for work.

Yesterday at his shop in Graiguenamanagh, which sells sweets, newspapers, Mass cards and some groceries, a female employee said that Mr Pearson was “not here”, had not been seen for a few days and was with his wife who was “sick”.

But at the rented pebble-dashed house in Goresbridge, his wife told The Irish Times she had “separated a while ago” from her husband, was unaware of his current whereabouts and knew nothing about his business deals. She accepted, however, that an elderly and much-repaired Northern Ireland-registered Jaguar Sovereign car parked outside belonged to her husband.

The couple and their two daughters have been living in the modest house for a year. In Goresbridge yesterday, people said they were surprised and sceptical about media reports of Mr Pearson’s wealth.

At a take-away restaurant on Barrack Street, Chrissie Travers said Mr Pearson was a “fierce nice chap” but “if someone told me he was a billionaire, I’d drop dead or give him an extra bag of chips”.

She said he often called in “on the way home from work” and ordered the “quarter-pounder meal deal” – which at €6.70 includes “a can” – but sometimes “he goes for the chicken curry” (at €5.80).

Ms Travers said she had “never heard a helicopter taking off”.

Repeated efforts to contact Mr Pearson proved unsuccessful
This certainly destroys Colada's wet dream and his credibility to be a good judge of character.

It's funny to see a magazine owned by Vinny Browne attacking O'Leary for poor business performance! A quick list of Vinny's business disasters would include The Sunday Tribune, Magill Magazine and Village. I'd invest in Michael O'Leary over Browne any day.

Would there be a bit of history here. Was MOL not PA to Tony Ryan when Ryan was an investor in the Tribune?

I didn't know that. However, I don't think Village was ever a roaring success was it?

yes, another feather in Vinnies cap

fact is it has trading losses in 7 digits and Vinny drove it there

it kills a guy like Vinny (i am so smart) that a roughneck like O'Leary can be so succesful

grassroots makes a good point, was MOL running the sliderule as TR's assistant back in Vinnys turbine days or was it prior to that?

    a valid Q
