SR technics up for sale last november?

Just found this on the FG website....

Dempsey's inaction may scupper SR Technics rescue plan - FG
Fine Gael News - Dempsey?s inaction may scupper SR Technics rescue plan ? FG

" The DAA told the Oireachtas Transport Committee this week that it informed Minister Dempsey last November that SR Technics wanted to sell back its long-lease on six hangars at the airport. This was a clear signal of the company's plans to sell off or close its Dublin facility. As far as we know, this matter was never discussed at Cabinet level"

Is this another we didn't know owt about it?

The sec of the dept didn't tell me?

The tuberosity on my face is actually my nose??

True,true....but when Mary Palin caught the flight ot the US about DEll she could have swung by the Nordics on the way home...perhaps...or maybe a contingency plan?

Very big difference. SRT shafted by Aer Lingus.

The loss of SR Technics goes far deeper than just the jobs! It has now put Ireland on a backwards trend as in, we soon will have no facility to maintain commercial airliners.

Knock on effect is airlines tend to avoid countries that do not have such facilities as it would be very expensive to repair a broken down aircraft.

Whilst this was a part of Aer Lingus, it was sold off to maintain profits. Ok then, a commerical decision on their (AL) part. Maybe a blessing in disguise? By that I can clarify it this way.

Under present EU rules, national governments are not permitted to finance their airlines citing "competition"

This presented the government the opportunity to buy this company and sell it to the world on their many trade junkets!

Maybe I'm being to simplistic to what seemed rational to me. All we managed to due is put a further strain on the Irish economy, hand back 60% to SRT when they pay out the redundancy, certainly lose airline business, leading to tourism loss and the following revenue loss to the local economy as a whole...

    Cheers
