IRATE bus drivers turned up the heat on the Green Party yesterday, as hundreds of taxi drivers took to the streets demanding a cap on the number of cabs.

When did bus drivers ever support the Greens???
The number of licences should not be capped and drivers should be allowed to set their own meter rate up to the maximum permitted by the regulator. That way we would have some real competition.
There should be no cap on licenses. People aren't getting taxis because of the price system in place currently. Taxi drivers/customers should be allowed to negotiate fees also.
There is no provision in terms of infrastructure to cater for the number of taxi's out there. A few token ranks won't do it either.

You can negotiate a fare with the taxi driver before the journey starts. And once you're in the taxi you're entitled to be taken 30km by the driver. Some drivers dont take passengers if they're going to the outskirts of Dublin (Rathcoole, Saggart, Ballyboughal Naul, Balbriggan etc) but they are obliged to.
Too many people just accept this too easily and should take the number and report the driver.
Ah yes, let the market decide if we can take 1000 or 100,000 taxi drivers. Good idea. Can we tell the regulator to stop increasing fares then?
Also, if the market decides, can we expect to see the market deciding on things like
Barristers
Solicitors
Doctors
Dentists
Thought not.
ALL laws for the rich......
