I think with the current economic conditions, this may be allowed to go ahead.

the clown in finance will probably block this stating that its vital that this vital national strategically important entity remain in irish hands with strong government involvement. Then he will go back to flogging the banks to the highest bidder.....

What has that got to do with anything?

Mergers like this and knocked down on the basis that they create monopoly; it has nothing to do with current economic conditions. In fact, the last thing you want in an economic downturn is to undermine competition.

This is just O'Leary mucking around, as usual. The EU Commission (being the soleless, child-eating, old lady mugging heathens that they are) will never allow Ryanair to buy Aer Lingus).

This might come as news to you, but the State doesn't actually own the banks.

But you were never big on facts, particularly with that little voice in your head telling you how clever you are all the time.

Read the terms f the credit institutions guarantee scheme - it doesnt matter if they own them or not.....Meanwhile, back in post, the point, which your tiney head is too small to contain, is that the muppet show that is the cabinet is perfectly capable, indeed willing, to engage in doublethink. And not realise it...

Maybe you could quote the relevant section that prevents a private individual selling their Bank of Ireland shares to another private individual or institution.

What about Lloyds and HBOS? A year ago that merger would have been unthinkable based on the monopoly rules.

Not the same. That proposal didn't envisage the creation of a single UK bank, and HBOS was 24 hours from going under, while Aer Lingus is solvent.
