    Metro-North decision tomorrow?

Deaglan de Breadun writes this morning that the Metro North project is to be discussed at today's cabinet meeting.

Deaglan writes that despite the Transport Minister, Noel Dempsey and his department staff insisting that no decision has been made on the project, other government sources speaking to Deaglan suggest the project is under serious review.

It is dead. The only discussion at this stage is the date of the funeral.

I would agree with you. Given the current economic climate it would be highly foolish to proceed with the project.

Metro North can be delayed. The Dart Interconnector cannot.

Hopefully they make the right decision if they have to cut something. However, I think it would be good for the economy to build the metro, especially now, and they can probably do it for a better price in this climate.

not dead, they will differ it indefinately, but not kill it off, that way they can use it again for election manifesto's, padding of Transport 22, etc or what ever other self serving way they wish......

New here but interested by this topic. Does anyone know how the current situation will impinge on other elements of the NDP? Specifically whether the bridge between Omeath and Warrenpoint will go ahead?

There may be different opinions on this. In my opinion, the NDP is toilet paper now. Projects that have started will probably be completed. New projects will be "deferred".

As someone from that area, I will be sad that the North Louth/South Down bridge will probably not proceed.

given the cost of congestion to the excherquer it'd be foolish short-term ism nonsense to hold back on public transport infrastructure.
