    On yer bike.

I have just got rid of my motorbike and taken delivery of an electric bicycle. Its better in city traffic than the motorbike was and very easy to use especially now that peddling is only an option and you don't need a licence, tax or insurance. The government should offer some sort of incentive to get more of these on the roads as they are quite expensive but as an environmentally friendly transport alternative, they are a small but significant step forward.

I had an ebike for three or more years until after my second one was robbed from outside City Hall I decided to revert to the traditional model. good luck with your ebike as I found them to be a great way of getting around town.As Lord Mayor I led the St. patricks day parade on the ebike to try and promote them.

    good work Cllr!

The bicycle is the most efficient form of urban transport for all in the city.

The above initiative is welcome but Cllr, your own organisation must take a serious look at itself in this regard. The design and maintenance of cycle facilities in Dublin is shameful and dangerous and the overbearing bias towards the private car and Dublin Bus perseveres to this day, as if we were stuck in the 1970's,. My route is dogged with major potholes (inbound bus stop opposite the Capito, Hotel on Pearse St being an horrific death trap for example whereby I must cycle in the middle of the lane to avoid an accident) and poor provision. As for pedestrian provision well that's a sad joke, especially outside Tara st station. Pathetic. So while i welcome your own personal commitment to cycling, Dublin City Council is a bloody disaster!
We need to radically change every system that has enabled the wholesale destruction of the Irish landscape, rural and urban. There is no time for incremental step by step measures. The systems have failed utterly and the only hope for a real recovery requires the rule book to be torn up completely.

perhaps the govt should abolish vat for these environmentally friendly vehicles, or implement some similar incentive?

    Re: On yer bike.

the govt could do a few very effective things tomorrow if they gave a sh1t about our cities:

    - Charge civil servants the going rate for parking
    - Give them all free/cheap bikes
    - Ban all cars from College Green and O'Connell Street. Completely
    - Do not let any Child enter secondary level education without being fully trained and tested on bike and road safety (unless they're Mobility Impaired)

That'd achieve far more than white lines on roads that aren't wide enough to use safely.
