    Public Transport in Ireland

The worst in europe by a long way, even the ex-Stalinist nations of eastern europe have some sort of planned infrastructure and co-ordinatined buses, trams and trains. Ireland is a complete embarassment. How many new rail lines have we built since independence? The good old celtic tiger, didn't do much for transport did it?

Obviously supplying adequate public transport is made more difficult by the extremely poor or non existant planning of settlement patterns.

Maybe you're far too easily pleased. The trains especially are a disgrace. You have to go through Dublin for everything.

Right well for those of us who don't live in Dublin (yes there are Irish people who don't live in Dublin) the LUAS and DART aren't exactly options. We can either get a car (which many young workers can't afford) or vainly hope that our ************************ey bus service won't be more than 20 minutes late while we stand in the rain.

What are you ranting about old timer? Maybe if I lived in south Dublin and was retarded I would also be content with the incompetence of our services but I'm not so I'm not content.

I live outside Dublin, I use public transport every day, I don't have a car and it serves my needs very well. Of course there is always room for improvement.

    Re: Public Transport in Ireland

this issue requires, and has been the subject of many, many better threads
We need to radically change every system that has enabled the wholesale destruction of the Irish landscape, rural and urban. There is no time for incremental step by step measures. The systems have failed utterly and the only hope for a real recovery requires the rule book to be torn up completely.
