Good news for public transport: Interconnector fast-tracked

    See here: http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ire ... 54427.html

    and also here: http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ire ... ml?via=rel

This is great news. I think the Interconnecter is more important than Metro North, and in any case will surely need to be in place first so that Metro North has something to "tie" in to.

    Excellent.

I was particularily cheered to read:

After starting out separately, Iarnród Éireann and the RPA have been holding bi-weekly project meetings over the past year to co- ordinate planning of this multi-level station. It is also likely that tracks for a Luas city centre link will be laid within the enclosure.
Mr Muldoon said electrification of the rail lines to Maynooth and Hazelhatch (on the Kildare line) was "fundamental" to the project, though it is not included in the cost estimate. However, he stressed that there was "no fat in this programme whatsoever".

ah sure they must;ve been reading all our posts here
We need to radically change every system that has enabled the wholesale destruction of the Irish landscape, rural and urban. There is no time for incremental step by step measures. The systems have failed utterly and the only hope for a real recovery requires the rule book to be torn up completely.

Hopefully the pressure will be maintained. I suggest a Lobby of the Oireachtas by platform 11 or whoever is in a position to organise it.

I wish they'd just start already! I might head over to Heuston with a shovel one of these days and get the job done myself...

Good news indeed, but read the byline! I think the Interconnector's Number One Fan has got a little breathless on this one:

Any chance while commuters are waiting on this to be completed they could open up the Phoenix Park tunnel as temporary measure between Hueston and Connolly??

Mmmm you could but it's not electrified and leaves you off at a very awkward platform at Heuston. You'd be better quicker taking the Luas!

    Good News.
I demand that the Park tunnel be opened. None of the Arrows are electrified.
