Any chance while commuters are waiting on this to be completed they could open up the Phoenix Park tunnel as temporary measure between Hueston and Connolly??
Mmmm you could but it's not electrified and leaves you off at a very awkward platform at Heuston. You'd be better quicker taking the Luas!
None of the arrows are electric for a start and if the train ran through to the tunnel terminating at the other station surely that's quicker than changing to a Luas.

On top of that its the equivalent to having a 2 lane roadway through the city permanently closed, ridiculous.

Connolly doesn't have any spare platforms for the Arrows to terminate at, and if you directed them through to Docklands it would foul up an already very busy junction north of Connolly. That whole area is already operating beyond capacity with Dart, Maynooth, Dundalk and Belfast trains. Throw the Kildare trains in too and the whole system would grind to a halt.

Good news for public transport...... in Dublin.

Disaster for the rest of the country. With all the money disappearing into the Metro there is no hope of upgrading to even a basic level of public Transportation outside the M50. Dublin Bus, The DART, The Luas, The Metro. Cork/Limerick/Galway/Waterford would kill for even the level of service Dublin Bus provides never mind a range of rail options.

Build yerselves a city the size of Dublin instead of having an estate in every field. Then come back to us
We need to radically change every system that has enabled the wholesale destruction of the Irish landscape, rural and urban. There is no time for incremental step by step measures. The systems have failed utterly and the only hope for a real recovery requires the rule book to be torn up completely.

In fairness, a lot of the improvements in Dublin have come because the city council got off its ass, stood up to the NIMBYs and brought in Bus lanes years ago. I'm from Limerick myself, and the only thing preventing a proper bus service there is local politics. Why in the name of Jeebus isn't there a bus lane network in Limerick? Its been dragging on for years and the City council just wont get the finger out.

While others shoot down the general inanity of your post, can I point out that the Interconnector will deliver a massive increase in public transport capacity to an area far beyond the M50.
However, banks know they have a duty of care to their clients and I'm sure that this should prevent them lending irresponsibly.

Sounds like there's a need for a public transport pressure group for the country - not like westontrack (which is just a single issue and, in fairness, has largely won it) but a group calling for bus lanes, commuter rail and the like.

There already is one for rail.

But, in fairness, would a Limerick local authority give a toss if a national bus users' forum demanded that they provide bus lanes? I've a feeling its one of those issues that will only get resolved if Councillors feel what they hear on the local doorsteps suggests the wind is changing direction.

Local pressure groups united under an umbrella body perhaps?

At the end of the day, it's all about channelling people power effectively.

There is already a strong case for bus lanes, the interconnector and whatnot - what is missing is people power behind it.
