    Tolls.. Road building in Ireland..etc.!

I am getting more and more curious about how this country is run and I am no longer happy to be a PAYE worker, paying my taxes, and going along without knowing why things are the way they are.
I'm increasingly pissed off with the tolls - M50-2 euro each way for the past year and they are still working on it, and still so so far away from completion.

What's the story with this? Who EXACTLY is involced in this 'partnership'? Who is making the millions off the road building?
My uncle told me that the government is in fact paying for the bulk of the work and that the private companies are actually only paying for the bridge? Okay, very vague.. but is that true, that we are actually footing the main part of the bill ourselves?

    Would appreciate any info.

Also, why hasn't anyone hijacked the toll bridge at least once and held up traffic to make a point.
At least the Herald or was it the Daily Mail had a campaign running to make a point about it..

You don't pay the toll to use the M50, you pay it to cross the bridge. Fact is the bridge has been paid for many times by now so we are just being ripped off.

The tolls in the south are shocking. I'm from Northern Ireland and recently had a reason to venture to Dublin for the day. I thought I'd save money driving since the rail fare is quite steep but I wish I'd taken the train now.

It seemed every few miles you had to dig into your pocket to pay another toll. I'm glad I don't live down there!

That's because in the south (as you call it) we work for a living, rather than blackmailing the UK for cash with threats of murderous rampage.

Assuming you came down the M1 you would have paid once at Drogheda and again on your return journey. If you went through the port tunnel then more fool you.

Yeh that ONE SINGLE TOLL must've hurt real baaadd. Simple solution would be to stay in Northern Ireland
We need to radically change every system that has enabled the wholesale destruction of the Irish landscape, rural and urban. There is no time for incremental step by step measures. The systems have failed utterly and the only hope for a real recovery requires the rule book to be torn up completely.

Cant comment much on toll roads or motorways, but the local council dug up the road in our village 3 months ago, they still havent been back to resurface it yet! And not 1 road work sign etc to warn you!
