Luas Line F - Emerging Preferred Route

I've heard it on the grapevine that Route Option 2 is likely to be chosen for the Lucan Luas line. This means that the route will not pass through Ballyfermot, Inchicore or Kilmainham villages. It may not pass through Liffey Valley unless sub option B is chosen. It will however use the red line between black horse and fatima should reduce cost woth the addes benefit of taking more of the line off the existing road network drasticly reducing the number of traffic light intersections with roads. It will also have an interchange with the kildare line at parkwest. What think ye?

nope. Not a fan. To close to red line and Kildare DART line. And misses out LV and the places you mentioned and doesnt' penetrate the heart of the City as 1 does at TCD. Easier and cheaper to build though. A major LUAS/Metro interchange at Quarryvale would be very desirable as the centre is due to be redeveloped as a proper town centre. An interchange with the KRP is not as advantageous as they are both radials which teminate in the centre.

Requires serious justification - usually these routes more or less pick themselves but there are real options here with real pros and cons. As far as serving the most possible route one seems better on the surface
We need to radically change every system that has enabled the wholesale destruction of the Irish landscape, rural and urban. There is no time for incremental step by step measures. The systems have failed utterly and the only hope for a real recovery requires the rule book to be torn up completely.

They need to get away from this "easier to build it here" mentality. Put them where they're most needed and deal with the expense. If the demand is there, then the expense is justified. See Metro North; Interconnector.

DLR that'd be fine but in Ireland where every project is subject to the type of in-depth analysis carried out by the likes of Michael O'Leary of budget airline fame, Joe Duffy of Liveline fame and Mr A. Outraged of Irish Times Letter's pages fame, a simple sensible "build where it's needed" approach can never happen. And when Cost Benefit Analyses are done with 50 year timframes on projects that will last for centuries and don't take any real "quality of life" indicators into account like decreased stress, increased productivity and more family time, there really is no point in even assessing these projects in that manner.

Nope, as you rightly imply, if the ribbon can be cut as quickly as possible do it that way! Sure Transport 21 is merely the 2001 DTO Strategy with the difficult bits removed

More Luas = good news, wherever it goes. The quicker the better, IMHO; the more cars off the roads, the less oil we need to import (do the balance of payments a power of good). I was well impressed that the Cherrywood bit is now going to be done by 2009....the original schedule was 2012. Public transport project in 3 years ahead of original plan.....= me gobsmacked.

I think they should let Luas do the airport line too... to hell with the expensive underground stuff. Just run a line from Abbey street...and pedestrianise the city centre, link the north side Luas to Stephens Green down Westmoreland St and round the front of Trinity, Nassau St, Kildare St etc. It's not effing rocket science and so what if it causes traffic jams?? The southside will have lots of other transport options by the time Luas gets to Fassaroe.

Cherrywood line was actually meant to have been delivered by 2006. T21 has 2010 as the open date.

I stand corrected. I just see the signs up around the interchange. Xmas 2006, they said 2012.

are you sure it'll be delivered by 2009? Where did you read that, out of interest.

Do we know when the official announcement about the Lucan line will be made by the RPA?
