L driving alone a criminal offence

The author Evelyn Waugh predicted about 40 years ago that "the law will make criminals of us all". Was he right?

Starting in July, L drivers driving alone can be charged with a criminal offence and fined up to a €1,000. This means that a person convicted could not get a passport, which is required for travel to most countries, including America.

Those who need to drive but haven't passed the driving test should,if they can afford it, consider recruiting a co-driver using classified ads. There should be many retired people out there interested in the job, many of them who have driving licences from the days before the driving test came in.

so you want to see people with just a provisional license ie who have only passed a THEORY test free to roam the land at speed in their cars!! idiot

I presume you are also one of those idiots who blame the government because too many people are dying in car accidents?

Indeed the accompanying driver need to hold his licence for two years or over under the new laws.
Time for the Irish Goverment to do the honorable thing and go. If thay have any honour left.

You can still get a passport, but you won't get a visa to get into the US. I think you've confused the two.

The law doesn't make criminals of us all. We make criminals of ourselves when we break the law. Not all laws are good laws, but this one is.

we've been oppressed like this in the north for as long as i can remember . And giving out about southern drivers too for as long as i can remember as most of them can get their license in a lucky bag instead of learning how to drive first .

That's true. It's no wonder we have such appalling accident statistics in Ireland what with the indigenous drivers who should not ever have been allowed behind the wheel and the crazy number of reckless non national drivers in untested (often unsafe) cars - left hand drive and with no payment of Irish road tax and often no valid insurance.

And then there is the people in ireland who were gave licence without having to pass any test. Another former irish solution to a irish problem.
