Just got my test third time. Anyone take longer? I have a friend attemoting his 4th. We are both good drivers-I just got nervous the first two times. Can anyone explain what the point of reversing around a corner is??

I recommend at least 10 hours of lessons with a properly qualified instructor. Most should pas first time if they do this. If not they need more.

i think its essential for reversing out of a parking space/driveway etc. its not too hard, just go very slow and inch your way out. don't hit the path or its a fail (or so my instructor told me).Originally Posted by riker1969

Yeah, how many hours have you had with an instructor? I'd consider myself quite a natural (hence for the most part good) driver, but there is no way I'd have passed it on my first go if I didnt get a few instructor lessons, and with a good deal of practise beforehand. I still made one off the maximum level 2 (?) mistakes, two more and I would have had to repeat it!Originally Posted by riker1969

4 times. First time was too soon, second I was quite hungover (and possibly still drunk), third the tester was grouchy and fourth I changed Test Centre.
I did drive without a passenger - but only did so on my second provo-licence - good boy, but ************************e driver.
Now let's close that loophole and band those kids from the road.
We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns — the ones we don't know we don't know.
I put some of those Driving Instructors kids through college with the amount of lessons I got. Got mine in Tallaght but its much easier to pass down the country-not sure why that is. I know people start driving earlier but it cant all be down to that.
First time I'd had a grand total of three lessons. Ever. Made a balls of it, but I was expecting to anyway, I just wanted to find out what the test was really like.
Second time around, still only three lessons ever, knew what to expect so no nerves, and knew from the first one what bits I had to work on, passed easily. Tis a good strategy, methinks.
