Um, like, you know, the previous paragraph:-

The 64-page analysis found that police attributed responsibility for collisions more or less evenly between drivers and cyclists overall, but this was skewed by the fact that when child riders were involved their behaviour was named as a primary factor more than three-quarters of the time.

No, the signs say do not pass on the inside when the truck is turning left, i.e. when the truck has indicated its intention to turn. It is 100% the truck driver's responsibility to check that their way is clear before indicating and certainly before maneuvering. Cyclists who are interested in staying alive, of course, will not rely on the driver showing the attention required, and will give HGVs a wide berth. However this does not make them responsible for the driver's hazardous behaviour.

Fair enough if you want to include children, but in general on this thread I think it's understood that we're talking about adult cyclists.

Not wanting to be pedantic, but the very first post on this thread mentioned hundreds of children cycling illegally ...

Oooh, so it does. However that poster refuses to come back on this thread and apologise for his insensitive and inaccurate claims about cycle fatalities, so we're ignoring him.

I wonder exactly what decade NDS was talking about with that claim, the 70's? 80's? It sure as heck wasn't more recent than 87 because I ain't seen many children cycling anywhere, never mind to and from school.
I haven't seen one child cycle to or from school in a long time. The younger, up to 17, get driven there by parent or a bus. 17 and up, often have their own car.

I think there are too many at night who not only ride without lights but without anything reflective whatsoever. Lights cost little, nor does a reflective jacket cost too much. Some are only visible as a black silhouette passing through some well lit junction.
