Couldn't agree more. The thing that really got up my nose was the fact that passengers without a ticket were herded into an area cordoned off by security barriers...really intimidating. Its a pity that Irish Rail don't put more effort into running a reliable service. Passengers coming from Naas will know what I'm talking about. The funny thing is that you never see any ticket checkers meeting a train which has been delayed (quite a lot if you travel from Naas). There know what reaction they would get.
What do fare evaders expect? Tea and cakes?Originally Posted by trustno1

God, this thread is very funny indeed. Of course we're all so familiar with the Stasi that we'd spot them a mile away.
You mean there were so many passengers without tickets that they had to be "herded"...? Now that says something about Irish Rail's inefficiency. I suppose if herds of passengers aren't buying tickets, then the ticket-checkers might appreciate having police back-up in order to impose all the fines.Originally Posted by trustno1
But it's hardly that, is it? Who were these "Stasi" people? If they were cops then I'm sure they had some good reason to be there. There is a significant terrorist threat to the Irish state and trains could be a target. Think of Madrid.
Of course the main reason for the terrorist threat is the Irish Government's ongoing support of the U.S. military use of Shannon Airport, which is morally indefensible. Irish politicians' silence on the matter is a disgrace. We Irish should have nothing to do with American military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan (not to mention Somalia, Pakistan, and...).
15 Jan 2001 -- Fine Gael pledged to end fluoridation because of "serious health concerns".
It's more likely to be about combatting fare evasion. People who travel by rail without paying their way. Perhaps the same people who complain about some of the carriages not having an '08 reg.Originally Posted by soubresauts

And even more about the thieving passengers. You mean there were so many passengers without tickets that they had to be "herded"...? Now that says something about Irish Rail's inefficiency.
There should be no need for ticket checkers at all if proper automated styles were put in place. This business of having people forming long looping chains around Heuston Station until 10 mins before departure is a joke. Get with the 20th century Iarnród Eireann!![]()
Vlad The Impaler was the original stakeholder!
The Stasi are back at Heuston Station from this morning, again intimidating passengers.![]()
'We are all lying in the gutter but some of us are looking at the stars'
The title of this thread is utterly misleading as anybody who suffered at the hands of the Stasi would tell you. People checking tickets??? FFS, cop on!!

There are bouncers, who wear a Stazi type of uniform, they are NOT transport police.
